Cookie policy

The cookies and guest tokens Outside uses to run sign-in, carts, and conversational menus.

1. What are cookies

Cookies and similar technologies are small pieces of data stored on your device. Outside uses them to keep you signed in and to maintain guest cart and chat sessions while you order.

2. Cookies and tokens we use

Authentication session cookies: when you sign in as a guest diner or restaurant staff, our auth provider sets a session cookie so we can recognise your signed-in account across pages.

Guest cart token (`outside_cart_token`): an opaque token stored in the browser (typically for about 30 days) so your table cart stays available as you move between menu, chat, and checkout. It is sent to our API as a cart header.

Guest chat token (`outside_chat_token`): an opaque token stored in the browser (typically for about 30 days) so your conversational menu session can resume. It is sent to our API as a chat header.

We do not load third-party analytics or marketing tracking cookies. Restaurant shops record first-party visit events (page path, referrer, locale, and an IP-derived city or country) so operators can see guest traffic on their dashboard. Those events use a server-side fingerprint, not a new browser cookie. A short-lived sessionStorage flag only prevents duplicate counts in the same tab.

3. Why we use them

These technologies are required for core product functionality: signing in, keeping a cart attached to your table session, continuing a chat recommendation session, and completing checkout. Without them, guest ordering flows may not work correctly.

4. Your choices

You can clear cookies and site data in your browser settings. Clearing authentication cookies will sign you out. Clearing cart or chat tokens may abandon an in-progress order or conversation.

For more on how we handle personal data associated with these sessions, see our Privacy Policy. Effective date: 4 August 2026.
